 Ray Yost

Yost began his collegiate coaching career when he took over the Mercyhurst College men's team in 1995. That year his squad was the #2 ranked team in the Eastern United States for Division II, upsetting nationally ranked Slippery Rock University in the Eastern Region playoffs. The upset earned his team a spot in the 1995 NCAA Division II National Championships in Davis, California. The Lakers ultimately fell to the #1 team in the nation, Lander University, in the first round. The following fall, Mercyhurst joined the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The GLIAC, considered one of the toughest Division II conferences in the United Sates, proved to be just that. The Lakers proved equal to the challenge that first year and ended the season 11-3, good enough for a third place conference finish.

Yost has been involved with every facet of the tennis industry. Presently, he owns and operates the Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, an eight-court indoor facility, which serves as Mercyhurst's home for both practices and matches. Yost has been a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association for 30 years with a Pro I ranking. The Westwood Racquet Club was voted USTA "Sectional Club of the Year" in 1992. He has owned and operated numerous overnight tennis camps and coached many nationally and sectionally ranked juniors. Yost has directed many professional exhibitions with such top players as Martina Navratilova, Marty Riessen, Bjorn Borg, and Stan Smith.

Yost attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Sociology and Business. He was captain and MVP of his college team. He is still an active tournament player, having held top sectional rankings in both singles and doubles.
