 Lester Sombito

Lester Sombito is in his first year as head coach of the Mustangs' men's and women's tennis teams. He began his duties at Morningside following the completion of the 2003-04 academic year.

Sombito, a native of Houston, Texas, came to Morningside from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, where he was a recruiter and admissions counselor. Sombito was an assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach at Mary Hardin-Baylor from 2000 to 2003. He was also a private tennis instructor in Belton and was a tennis instructor for the Belton Independent School District from 2000 to 2003.

He was the director of the Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Crusader Tennis Camp from 2000 to 2002 and was an instructor at the 2003 University of Texas Longhorn Tennis Camp.

Sombito has level two certification in the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and is a member of the United States Tennis Association. He has been a licensed USPTA instructor for nine years.

He graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1996 and received a master’s degree in kinesiology and sports management from the University of Texas in 2002.

He was a varsity letterwinner while competing for Mary Hardin-Baylor’s men’s tennis team. Sombito earned first-team All-Heart of Texas Conference honors as a senior and was a two-time team captain and Most Valuable Player.
