 Shelley George
Shelley George assumed the role of interim head coach on January 29, 2013. A past section president within the United States Tennis Association (USTA), George is in her eighth season on the sidelines at Syracuse University. She brings an abundance of tennis coaching experience and was selected as one of six Division I coaches to receive the Eastern Sectional Campus & Community Outreach Award, which is selected annually by the USTA/Intercollagiate Tennis Association (ITA).
 
Across her tenure at SU, George has helped guide the Orange tennis program to its most productive seasons in program history.
 
George at Syracuse
George provides support for the Orange tennis program in many ways; including one-on-one instructional sessions with student-athletes, coordinating recruiting visits and helping facilitate the operations at Drumlins Tennis Center.
 
During the summer months both George and head coach Luke Jensen participate in "Orange Blocks," free tennis clinics given in the Syracuse CIty School District. Part of the Orange tennis initiative, "Orange Blocks" teaches fundamentals, develops skills and offers prizes to students in the community.
 
George’ Personal File
From 1986-2005, she was the head girls' tennis coach at City High in Iowa City where she earned three coach of the year awards and was honored as the United States Professional Tennis Registry Coach of the Year in 2004. George was inducted into the City High Sports Hall of Fame in October 2007.
 
George was president of the USTA's Missouri Valley section and previosuly served two years with the USTA National Collegiate Committee, after being named committee chair in November 2006. She was also the Director of Tennis at the North Dodge Athletic Club (NDAC) in Iowa City for nine years. Through her leadership and direction, the NDAC was named “Facility of the Year” by the USTA Iowa District.
 
George served as the co-director of the University of Iowa’s Recreation Building from 1986-97, where she was responsible for all tennis activities, including leading sports camps, facilitating two head coach searches while serving as a volunteer assistant coach.
 
George played tennis at St. Ambrose University for two seasons before transferring to the University of Iowa, where she earned a degree in communications in 1981.
