 Mark Henry
Head Women’s Tennis Coach Mark Henry returns for his 19th season at UCR, and his 17th as the women’s head coach.

A graduate of Whittier College, Henry became the head coach of the Poets in 1987 (1987-89) after returning from graduate school at Indiana University. He then moved on to work with nationally ranked programs UC Irvine (1989-92) and Cal Poly Pomona (1992-93).

In his career at UCR, Henry has taken teams to NCAA regionals eight times. During the past fifteen seasons on the courts he has coached an All-American, a UCR Female Athlete of the Year, two ITA Regional Rookies of the Year, three ITA Arthur Ashe Award Winners for Leadership and Sportsmanship, one ITA Cissier Leary Award winner, and numerous all-conference performers.

Five of his teams have been nationally ranked. Since joining the Big West in 2001-02, the Highlanders have nine All-Conference singles players and six All-Conference doubles teams.

        
In the classroom his teams have earned ITA All-Academic Team honors six times. Individually, UCR has more than 20 ITA Scholar-Athlete award winners, a Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-American, and two Harper Award recipients (UCR Scholar-Athlete of the Year).

A two-time Division II West Region Coach of the Year, Henry won the honor with the women’s program in 1997 and with the men’s program in 1998. He is currently serving his third year as the chair of the ITA Regional Committee, and his sixth year on the Regional committee. This is also his second year serving on the ITA Division I Operating Committee.

Henry has three children: Aaron, Michael, and Jillian. He resides in Alta Loma with his wife and daughter. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, tennis, and spending time with his family.
