Katie Hangstefer
Head men’s and women’s tennis coach Rod Ray has announced the addition of Katie Hangstefer to the Terrier tennis staff in September 2007. Hangstefer provides assistance to both the men’s and women’s squad. Hangstefer came to Wofford after serving as the men’s and women’s head tennis coach at Covenant College since Dec. 2006. During her head coaching stint, Hangstefer instructed the Scots' men’s tennis squad as a club team. In its first year as a varsity sport, Hanfstefer led the women’s squad to a fifth-place Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) finish with a record of 2-7. The Lady Scots participated in the AAC tournament before falling in the first round to the fourth seeded Milligan College. Hangstefer guided the Lady Scots as they received the AAC 2007 Champions of Character team award, an honor for actions on and off the court. Hangstefer mentored Covenant’s No. 1 seeded player, sophomore Rachel Miedema, as she earned post-season Appalachian Athletic All-Conference honors as well as a nomination for the AAC Sportsmanship Award. In addition to Miedema, Hangstefer counseled freshman Catie Ramage to Honorable Mention all-conference recognition. Hangstefer also advised three Academic All-Conference honorees: Midema, Mallory Cowden and sophomore Laura Reisinger. In addition to her head coaching duties while at Covenant, Hangstefer also served as the director of facilities and operations since Feb. 2007. Prior to Covenant, Hanfstefer worked at Chattanooga as a tennis instructor teaching beginning and intermediate level classes from August 2002 until April 2003. While in college, she was an instructor in the McCallie tennis clinics and the McCallie tennis camp. Hangstefer graduated in 2002 from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a business management double major. Her concentrations were in general management and human resource management. Hangstefer is native of Chattanooga, Tenn.
