The Albion College men’s tennis team put home court advantage to good use Friday afternoon as it defeated Wabash (Ind.) College, 6-0, and upset 13
th-ranked Kalamazoo College, 5-2, inside the Ungrodt Tennis Center on the first day of the Great Lakes Invitational.
The Britons made quick work of Wabash, winning the match in less than two hours. Albion sprinted out to the early lead by winning all three doubles matches. In singles play, Neil Forster was at 6-1, 6-1 winner in the first flight, Brandon Still was a 6-0, 6-1 winner in the third flight, and Andrew Lulek was a 6-2, 6-0 winner in the fifth flight.
In its second match of the day, Albion avenged a narrow 6-3 loss to Kalamazoo in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association match played on April 4. Friday’s match does not count in the league standings, but the Britons still gained the breakthrough win they have been seeking all spring.
Albion won two of the three doubles contests to seize the early lead. Forster and Jon VandenBerg were 8-5 winners in the first flight, while Alex Galvin won a tiebreaker to eke out a victory in the second flight match. Forster and Ben Miller won their singles matches in straight sets, and Galvin sealed the Britons’ victory with a three set win in the second flight.
