Women's tennis fall to D-2 Mercyhurst, 5-4

The Allegheny women’s tennis team fell to NCAA Division II team Mercyhurst, 5-4, at the Robertson Complex.
The teams split the singles portion as Mercyhurst won Nos. 1-3 singles while the Gators claimed Nos. 4-6. However, in doubles, the Lakers took two out of three matches.
Janna Dickerson (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) won for Allegheny at fourth singles, defeating Natalie Iovino, 6-3, 6-0. At fifth singles, Elyse Schmitt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) handled Courtney Conway, 6-7(7),6-2, 10-3, while Allison Elick (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) beat Kelton Macke, 1-6, 7-6(0), 10-3 at sixth singles.
Jackie Conrad (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Margaret Hodgkiss-Lilly (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) were the Gators’ only winning doubles team. They took down Iovino and Macke, 9-7.
The Allegheny women (2-2) will be in action again on Saturday when they visit Robert Morris. The match will begin at 11 a.m.
