Thursday, 06/13/2013

WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team will host Auburn, Boise State and Drake on Jan. 24-26, 2014 at the Hurd Tennis Center for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Thursday.

The three visiting schools will travel to Waco for a four-team tournament with No. 1 seed Baylor facing No. 4 seed Boise State and the second-seeded Drake Bulldogs playing No. 3 seed Auburn. The winners will come back the following day to play for a berth at the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship. Baylor is one of 15 men's host sites around the country for the event.

The three teams chose to come to Waco as part of a draft selection process that was completed on Thursday. The higher ranked teams picked locations first.

The indoor team championship will then be held Feb. 14-17, 2014, in Houston, Texas.

Drake finished the 2013 ranked with the highest ranking in school history at No. 27. The Bulldogs posted a school-record of 25-4, including the Bulldogs' first-ever NCAA Championship win. The three-time defending Missouri Valley Conference regular season champions will return three starters and five letterwinners for the 2014 campaign.

Auburn was ranked No. 29 to end 2013, after tallying a 13-11 mark on the season and making its 14th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and 19th in the last 20 years. The Tigers were ousted in the first round of NCAA play, but will return four student-athletes in 2014.

Boise State completed the season with a 20-10 record and ranked No.46. The Broncos lost in the first round of NCAA Championship for a second straight season, but will return seven players from its roster next season.

The other 14 host sites are: Virginia, UCLA, Georgia, Ohio State, USC, Tennessee, Duke, Pepperdine, Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt and Florida.

Baylor last hosted the event in 2012.
