Boise State University Men Team News
Boise State falls to Arizona
Sunday, 02/27/2011

This is the year of hard knocks. We lost to Arizona 4-2 in a match that was in the bag for us. I really don't have time to expound on it, for it is midnight here, and we just got finished. Now we play in the 7th place match against Penn State tomorrow at 8:30 so I need to get prepared for tomorrow with very little sleep. We were forced to pull our #4 Jeff Mullen out of the singles due to him fighting an illness.

You couldn't beat the fact that this match was a thriller. The match score was 2-2 and we had three players in the 3rd set. Regretably we lost at #2 with Filipp Pogostkin 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 and the deciding match was determined when #5 Nathan Sereke lost 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.  He fought off three match points against him until he succumbed so our lanky freshman showed tremendous heart in this match.

We won the doubles point (#1 Hume/Sears and #3 Bettles/Pogostkin won).  And freshman Andy Bettles won at #4 singles 7-5, 6-2.

We are looking to turn our karma around tomorrow against Penn State in order to make our flight home sweet.  We will be playing our first home match for the season (after 12 matches on the road next Saturday against Utah at 11am (at the Appleton Tennis Center) and Utah State at 6pm at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.

Go Broncos!
