No. 19 Boise State Continues Dominance, Downs UCSB 6-1
Sunday, 03/30/2014

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Boise State continued its dominating play Friday afternoon as the Broncos rolled past UC Santa Barbara 6-1 in a nonconference men’s tennis match on the road in Santa Barbara, Calif. The victory in the first of three matches in California this weekend extends the 19th-ranked Broncos’ win streak to seven straight. Senior Andy Bettles recorded the match clinching win on court one for Boise State who improved to 17-3 overall with today’s victory.

Bettles helped get the ball rolling for the Broncos as he teamed up with Aidan Reid at No. 3 doubles to record the point clinching win in a tiebreaker 8-7 (5) over UCSB’s Teague Hamilton and Andrew Riminton on court three. It was the first time that the duo had played together this season.

Prior to that win, Boise State recorded another tiebreaker win 8-7 (5) on court two where Nathan Sereke and Toby Mitchell combined to down the Gauchos’ Erik Johnsson and Miles Seemann. UCSB’s lone doubles win was on court one where Garrett Patton and Brendan McClain lost 8-6 to the Gauchos’ Tobias Galskov and Ziad Sultan.

Up one heading into singles, the Broncos wasted little time putting distance between themselves and the Gauchos. Garrett Patton tallied a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win on court three over Sasha Gryaznov to put Boise State up 2-0. Patton is now 17-12 in singles on the year.

The score went to 3-0 Boise State following McClain’s dominating straight-set win 6-1, 6-0 on court four where he dispatched Johnsson. McClain extended his win streak to 11 straight as he improved his overall singles mark to a team-best 21-6 and 16-2 in duals this spring.

Bettles followed shortly after with the match clinching victory on court one. The 86th-ranked Bronco quickly put away UCSB’s Tobias Galskov 6-0, 6-0. The win gives the senior his 20th win of the season making him the second Bronco to reach that mark as he improved to 20-12 on the year.

Brian Foley extended the Boise State advantage to 5-0 when he tallied a 1-6, 6-4, 10-3 win on court five to improve to 16-7 overall. Mitchell added the final win for the Broncos with a straight-set 6-3, 6-4 win on court six to make the team score 6-0 Blue and Orange.

The lone Gaucho singles victory came on court two where Ziad Sultan won a marathon three-set match over Boise State’s Nathan Sereke 6-1, 6-7, 12-10.

Boise State will be back in action Sunday morning when they travel to San Luis Obispo, Calif., to take on the Cal Poly Mustangs in the second match of three on the road. The Broncos will wrap-up the trip Tuesday at Stanford.
