BOISE, Idaho (3-23-2015) - Garrett Patton and Thomas Tenreiro led the charge for Boise State in a 5-2 loss against 65th-ranked Cal Poly at the Boas Tennis Center at Boise. The Bronco tandem recorded the lone singles victories for the Blue and Orange Monday afternoon as Boise State fell to 6-11 overall.
Doubles was a battle with the Mustangs claiming the key team point 2-1 on the last match. Tenreiro and Lewis Roskilly tallied a 6-3 victory on court one to give the early edge to Boise State. Cal Poly then took the team point with victories on courts two and three to put the Broncos in a 1-0 hole heading into singles.
Patton battled hard on court one being taken into a set one tie breaker by Garrett Auproux before the Bronco claimed the set 7-4. The senior from Boise then put away his opponent with a easy 6-2 win in set two to take the match 7-6(4), 6-2. It was Patton’s third-consecutive win as he improved to 13-8 on the year in singles.
Tenreiro went undefeated against the Mustangs adding a singles victory on court two to his doubles win. The junior dispatched his opponent Ben Donovan in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to bring the Broncos even in the team score at 2-2. The win on Monday improved Tenreiro to 10-13 in singles.
Unfortunately, that was the last win for Boise State on the day as Cal Poly claimed the final three singles matches on courts five, four and three, respectively.
The Broncos will continue their nine-match homestand this Wednesday when they host the 41st-ranked Stanford Cardinal at 4 p.m. at the Appleton Tennis Center (weather permitting).
