Thursday, 03/26/2015

BOISE, Idaho - Lewis Roskilly won at No. 5 singles to lead Boise State in a 6-1 home defeat to 43rd-ranked Stanford Wednesday afternoon at the Appleton Tennis Center. Roskilly rallied from one set down to win his singles match in a 10-point third set tie break 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-3).

"We get knocked down and get knocked down, but we keep getting back up," said coach Greg Patton. "These guys fought hard and we are getting better. Every one of our guys competed hard today it was just one of those days when things did not go our way. We will continue to get back up and we will be ready for our next match this Saturday."

Joining Roskilly in the win column were Brian Foley and Toby Mitchell who teamed up for a doubles victory on court three to wrap-up the Broncos' success against the Cardinal.

Stanford won the doubles point in a tight competition with the team point being decided on the final match. Tied at one win apiece, the Cardinal claimed the point (2-1) with a 6-4 win on court one over Boise State's Roskilly and Thomas Tenreiro.

Boise State found itself down 6-0 when Roskilly rallied for the Broncos' lone team point. The freshman from England dropped the opening set 6-3 and trailed 4-2 in the second when he turned the match around. He won five of the next six games to take the second set and force the match into a 10-point third set tiebreak. He quickly took control of the tiebreak and raced to a dominating 10-3 win to seize the Broncos lone victory on the day.

"For Lewis to come back and win that match was big for him and his development," commented coach Patton. "Playing here and playing the schedule that we have was not what Lewis expected when he came here from England. He's learning to fight through it and it was great to see him win that match."

Next up for the Broncos is a home doubleheader at the Appleton Tennis Center on Saturday with Boise State facing No. 66 UC Santa Barbara at 11 a.m. followed by Eastern Washington at 6:30 p.m.
