Broncos Split Two on Saturday
Sunday, 03/29/2015

BOISE, Idaho - Garrett Patton went 4-0 on the day to lead Boise State to a split as the Broncos fell 5-2 to UC Santa Barbara, then regrouped to defeat Eastern Washington 7-0 in the night cap at the Appleton Tennis Center. Patton won both doubles matches with Abe Hewko on court two, as well as both singles contests on court one. The split on Saturday moved Boise State to 7-13 overall.

"This is a heck of a roller coaster ride, but the most important thing is now we are basically starting Mountain West Conference matches," said coach Greg Patton. "We are bruised and tattered but we are still standing. Our guys have the ability to win the league, we have been playing with every body on our schedule against a lot of nationally ranked teams. I believe it is going to come together for us and we are excited about April. Our whole schedule was about getting us ready for conference and winning the Mountain West."

Boise State opened the day against 66th-ranked UCSB winning the doubles point 2-1 versus the Gauchos. Abe Hewko and Patton won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, followed by a 6-4 win on court one by Lewis Roskilly and Thomas Tenreiro to hand the Broncos the team point.

Patton extended Boise State's lead to 2-0 over the Gauchos when he quickly dispatched Ziad Sultan at No. 1 singles in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Unfortunately, that was all the Broncos would get against UCSB as the Gauchos rallied by claiming five-straight victories in singles to win the match 5-2.

In the night cap, Boise State ran over Eastern Washington for a shutout 7-0 victory over the Eagles from the Big Sky Conference. It began with the Broncos sweeping all three doubles matches which all finished within minutes of each other.

Roskilly and Tenreiro completed the sweep on the day with a 6-4 win versus EWU's top pair of Eduardo Martinez and Robert Dula for their second victory at No. 1 doubles on Saturday.

Patton and Hewko also won their second doubles contest of the day downing their opponents 6-3, while Brian Foley and Toby Mitchell won 6-3 on court three.

Boise State put the Eagles away sweeping all six singles matches starting with Roskilly's straight set win on court six 6-3, 6-1. Patton added a 6-1, 6-4 win on court one, while the final victory came at No. 5 singles where Abe Hewko went to a third set 10-point tiebreaker to compete the sweep for Boise State winning 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).
