Boise State University Men Team News
Boise State Edged by Fresno State, 4-3
Monday, 04/13/2015

FRESNO, Calif. (4/12/2015) - Garrett Patton and Danny Moyer both won their singles matches to lead Boise State at Fresno State on Sunday, but the Broncos were edged by the Bulldogs 4-3 in Fresno. The match came down to the final singles contest of the day before being decided with the Broncos on the short end of the score.

“This was a tough one, we had our chances and just couldn’t get it done today,” said coach Greg Patton. “We played hard to open, winning the doubles point. Danny (Moyer) was big and played extremely well in his singles match, that was a big win, and Garrett (Patton) was solid as usual. We had opportunities to win this match today and we will learn from it. We are hanging with everyone in our league and just need to put it all together at the Mountain West Tournament in a couple weeks.”

Boise State won the doubles point to go with the two team points earned on Patton’s and Moyer’s singles victories. The loss drops Boise State to 10-15 overall and 3-3 in MW play.

Patton completed a weekend sweep with his three-set victory on Sunday over Fresno State’s Nikolas Papic 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. The senior from Boise has now won seven straight and is a team-best 20-9 overall. Patton teamed up with Toby Mitchell to win No. 2 doubles 6-3 to clinch the team point for the Broncos.

Freshman Danny Moyer claimed a straight-set victory at No. 6 singles on Sunday and was the first off the court as he spotted the Broncos a 2-0 team lead. Moyer put away Fresno State’s Alexandros Vakouftsis 6-3, 6-1 for his fifth singles victory of the year.

The team victory came down to the last match of the day on court five where the Broncos’ Lewis Roskilly was facing Eric Komati. Roskilly won the opening set, but unfortunately the freshman from England was unable to keep his momentum going in the final two frames falling 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The Boise State tandem of Roskilly and Thomas Tenriero helped the Broncos to the doubles point winning their match on court one 6-4 over the Bulldogs’ top team.

Boise State will close the regular season next weekend when they host Utah State and Idaho in a doubleheader next Saturday.
