WHAT'S HAPPENING
- The 63rd-ranked Boise State Broncos (15-15) are in Blacksburg, Va., for the NCAA Regional where they will open against No. 18 South Florida (19-6) at 9 a.m. (Mountain) Friday morning.
- Should the Broncos win on Friday they would face either the regional's host No. 15 Virginia Tech (19-4) or East Tennessee State (17-7) in the second round on Saturday.
- This is a single elimination tournament.
BRONCOS' NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
- The Broncos are competing in their 18th NCAA Tournament with this being their fourth-straight appearance.
- Boise State has advanced to the Big Dance in 10 of the last 11 years and in 14 of the last 18 overall.
- The Blue and Orange's all-time record in this event is 7-17.
- The Broncos have lost four straight in the opening round and five consecutive matches overall since advancing to the 2009 round of 16.
- Boise State's top performance in the NCAA Tournament was a quarterfinal appearance in 1997.
- Sixteen of Boise State's 18 NCAA appearances have come under head coach Greg Patton.
THE SOUTH FLORIDA MATCH
- The tournament opens for the Broncos with No. 18 South Florida (19-6) at 9 a.m. (Mountain) on Friday at Virginia Tech's Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
- This is a rematch between the to programs, South Florida defeated Boise State 4-0 in the opening round of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic at Montgomery, Ala., on Feb. 20.
- The Bulls enter the contest with an active five-match win streak, four of them by 4-0 scores.
- South Florida won its second-consecutive American Athletic Conference title two weeks ago defeating Temple (W 4-0), Memphis (W 4-1) and Tulsa (W 4-0) all at Tulsa, Okla.
- USF is led by Roberto Cid who is the reigning AAC Player of the Year and is currently ranked No. 21 in singles with a 9-4 record in spring duals ... Sasha Gozun is ranked No. 125 nationally.
POSSIBLE SEMIFINAL ROUND OPPONENTS
No. 15 Virginia Tech (19-4)
- Virginia Tech is the host of the regional and own a 19-4 overall record.
- VTU earned an art-large bid into the NCAA Tournament based on its national ranking after being upset in the ACC Tournament.
- This is Virginia Tech's ninth-consecutive appearance into the tournament.
- The Hokies are led by four nationally ranked singles players starting with Andreas Bjerrehus (24-10 overall in singles) at No. 43 and Amerigo Contini (22-11 overall) at No. 68.
East Tennessee State (17-7)
- The Buccaneers have won nine-consecutive conference titles (combined between Southern Conference and Atlantic Sun Conference) with the last one coming in their return season to the Southern Conference (SoCon) this year.
- ETSU enters its 13th tournament at 17-7 overall.
- The Buccaneers are 2-10 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
- East Tennessee State is led by David Biosca who is 14-5 at No. 1 singles this spring during duals ... Rogerio Ribeiro is 12-6 at No. 2 singles.

- The Broncos are currently 15-15 overall and are on a five-match win streak.

- The South Florida contest in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday will be the fourth rematch of the season for Boise State as the Broncos try to remain perfect in second encounters this spring.

- Boise State is led by senior Garrett Patton who plays No. 1 singles for the Broncos ... Patton has won 17 of his last 21 singles matches ... he saw an 11-match win streak snapped in the MW Championship match last time out ... he is now a team-best 24-10 on the year, 15-3 at No. 1 singles.
- Junior Thomas Tenreiro has been the primary No. 2 singles player during duals going 9-9 on that court this spring ... Tenreiro is 15-21 overall in singles on the year.
- In doubles the tandem of Tenreiro and Lewis Roskilly has led the Broncos going 18-6 overall with a 9-5 mark on court one and 9-1 record on court two.
REPRESENTING THE BRONCOS
DOUBLES POINT
- The Broncos have struggled this year when dropping the doubles point going 3-11 overall.
- They entered the MW Tournament 1-11 when losing the doubles point but rally twice versus New Mexico and Nevada during the championship event to win the title.
MOUNTAIN WEST HONORS
- Garrett Patton earned All-Mountain West Honors for his singles play during 2015 ... it is the senior's second career all-conference honor after earning the recognition for doubles as a junior.
- The Boise State tandem of Thomas Tenreiro (junior) and Lewis Rosilly (freshman) earned All-MW honors for doubles this spring.
COACH PATTON
- Greg Patton is in his 19th season as head coach at Boise State where he is 423-165 overall in team duals, his career mark is 774-358 in 35 years.
- His 774 career wins ranks him first among active coaches in the NCAA.
- Patton has taken 21 of his 35 teams to the NCAA Tournament going a combined 11-20 at both UC Irvine (4-5) and Boise State (7-15).
