BOISE, Idaho (10/3/2015) - Thomas Tenreiro swept a pair of singles matches Saturday to advance to Sunday’s championship match of the Dar Walters Boise State Fall Classic in Boise. Tenreiro has also reached the doubles semifinals with teammate Abe Hewko, they are the only Broncos remaining in the 11-team tournament.
Tenreiro began the day against Army’s Sam Lampman in the singles quarterfinals where he defeated his opponent 7-5, 6-4. He them took on Utah State’s Jonas Maier in the semifinals later Saturday. Tenreiro put Maier away with his second straight-set victory of the day tallying a 6-2, 6-4 win. Tenreiro, who is 5-0 in the tournament, will now face Utah State’s Jaime Barajas in Sunday’s title match at 11 a.m. at the Appleton Tennis Center.
Abe Hewko will join Tenreiro on the court at 1 p.m. Sunday when the Bronco tandem takes on Kyle Barnes and Austin McCasin from Army in the doubles semifinals. The Boise State duo reached the semis with a 6-4 quarterfinal victory over Jaime Barajas and Jack Swendells from Utah State.
Brian Foley tallied a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win in Saturday’s quarterfinals against Sam Serrano from Utah State. The senior then faced his second Aggie of the day in Barajas falling 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the semifinals. Foley finished the tournament 4-1 in singles.
Hewko was the third Bronco to play in Saturday’s quarterfinals where he fell 6-3, 6-4 to Barajas. Boise State sophomore Danny Moyer in a back draw match where he defeated Utah State’s Romani Ugarte 8-5 in a 8-game pro-set.
The doubles team of Moyer and Foley also competed on Saturday falling in the quarterfinals to Air Force’s Lucas Fumagalli and Max Olson 6-3.
