ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (10/21/2015) – On a weather plagued opening day at the USTA/ITA Mountain Regional in Albuquerque, N.M., Boise State advanced two doubles teams into the round of 16. The Bronco pair of Toby Mitchell and Kyle Butters, as well as the tandem of Thomas Tenreiro and Lewis Roskilly each won second round matches after receiving byes in the round of 64.
Singles Draw | Doubles Draw
Doubles play dominated the afternoon’s competition schedule including both Boise State doubles teams. Mitchell and Butters, seeded eighth, played first taking on Mountain West opponents Isaac Perez and Tadhg Collins from Air Force. The Bronco duo put the Falcons away quickly by an 8-2 score to advance in the round of 16 against another team from Air Force in Jack McCullers and Andrews Parks.
Tenreiro and Roskilly, who are seeded third, opened the tournament with an 8-4 victory over Idaho’s Odon Barta and Filipe Fonseca. The win advances the Boise State tandem into Thursday’s round of 16 versus Utah State’s Daniel Echeverry and Jaime Barajas, another Bronco versus MW opponent encounter.
The day opened with heavy rain fall causing delays and the rearranging of the schedule as the tournament moved indoors. That caused the organizers to switch most of the singles matches scheduled for today toThursday and move tomorrow’s doubles to today. The weather conditions are expected to clear up overnight and improve over the next couple days.
The four Broncos are all seeded in singles and received byes into the round of 32. They will all begin singles play on Thursday in the round of 32.
