LAS VEGAS, Nev. (10/30/2015) - Boise State men’s tennis’ contingent at the Larry Easley Memorial Classic in Las Vegas experienced mixed results on the opening day as Abe Hewko and Tillman Haynes both split in singles then lost in doubles. The duo will play again on Saturday opening with a consolation doubles match against UNLV’s Alexander Cozbinov and Rhett Boss at 10 a.m. (Mountain), followed by more singles contests in the afternoon.

Hewko opened the day with a straight-set singles victory 6-3, 7-5 over Northern Arizona’s Tim Handel in the round of 16 for flight one. Later Friday afternoon the junior from Palm Desert, Calif., faced UNLV’s Ruben Alberts in the quarterfinals falling to the Mountain West opponent in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Hewko will play singles again on Saturday against an opponent yet to be announced.

Freshman Tillman Haynes debuted for Boise State on Friday opening with a straight-set win 6-3, 6-4 over Alexander Roggenkamp from Grand Canyon in flight two’s round of 16. The victory advanced Haynes into the quarterfinals where he battled through three sets before falling to Northern Arizona’s Jackson Lee 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Like Hewko, Haynes will play again on Saturday in a pick-up match against a player to be named in the morning.
