Tuesday, 03/31/2009

W&M will host CAA foe VCU in Williamsburg on Wednesday, April 1, at 4 p.m.

Williamsburg (3/31/09) - William and Mary junior men’s tennis player Keziel Juneau moved into the Campbell’s ITA National Singles Rankings released on March 31. After upsetting the then-No. 44-ranked player in the country from Auburn at the Blue Gray Classic, Juneau moved into the No. 111 spot in the poll.

Juneau leads the Tribe in singles and doubles victories with 20 in each capacity. He is 16-9 this season in dual-match play at the No. 1 singles slot. Earlier this year, Juneau garnered the first national ranking of his career at No. 124 during the fall season. During the College’s match with No. 27 Auburn on March 19, Juneau defeated No. 44 Alexey Tsyrenov in straight sets to record his second ranked singles win of the season and the fourth of his collegiate career.

W&M, which is ranked No. 73 nationally, dropped three matches against a loaded Blue Gray Classic field falling to No. 27 Auburn, No. 43 Fresno State and No. 56 Middle Tennessee State, March 19-21. The Green and Gold is 13-12 on the season and will return to action against CAA foe and No. 55-ranked VCU on Wednesday, April 1. The Green and Gold will look to snap a five-match losing streak to VCU. The College last defeated the Rams to win the CAA Championship in 2005. Last season, VCU notched a pair of wins over the Tribe, including a triumph in the CAA Championship match.

The Rams have dropped four of their last five matches in falling to 11-8 on the season. Most recently, VCU dropped a pair of contests in a trip of the Lone Star State, falling to No. 10 Baylor, 7-0, and SMU, 5-1. Thibaut Charron leads the Rams with a 15-7 singles ledger from the No. 1 single position. Nicolas Vinel has played in the middle of the Ram lineup throughout the year and tops VCU with an 18-8 record. Benjamin Bouhana and Emil Lindgren comprise the Rams top doubles team. The duo is 11-5 this season and ranked No. 72 nationally.

The Tribe-Ram match is slated for a 4 p.m. start time at the Busch Tennis Courts in Williamsburg, weather permitting.
