 Steve Wimberly

The 2004-05 season will be Steve Wimberly’s seventh year as the head coach of Colorado School of Mines men’s tennis program. A Baldwin Hills, Calif., native, Wimberly has coached several different players at several different levels.

Last season, Wimberly guided Mines to its third RMAC Championship during his tenure and sixth straight appearance in the NCAA II Regional Championships where it was defeated in the opening round. In addition, two players earned All-RMAC honors under the guidance of Wimberly and Chris Perez was named the RMAC Freshman of the Year.

Three seasons ago, Wimberly guided the Orediggers to their best season in school history. CSM posted a 20-4 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the RMAC. The squad advanced to the NCAA North Central Regional Tournament where it defeated third-seeded St. Cloud State, 5-0, and top-seeded and host Rockhurst, 5-3. The Orediggers fell in the first round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament, 5-0, to Hawaii Pacific. Six Orediggers were honores as all-conference that season.

Wimberly was honored as the 2000 RMAC Coach of the Year after he led the Orediggers to an overall record of 20-10, including a perfect 6-0 in the conference, and the RMAC Championship. Eight CSM players earned all-conference accolades that season.
