 John Norton

Head Coach John Norton helped bring collegiate tennis back to Concordia this past year after a 15-year absence as he begins his fourth season as a collegiate coach.

Norton, also an Assistant Professor of English, has had an extensive background in Tennis. In 1994 he was awarded the United State Professional Tennis Association's highest rating as a tennis instructor. That year he created the Marbella Tennis Academy at the Marbella Country Club in San Juan Capistrano.

In 1998 he founded Norton Tennis, a tennis management company that runs seasonal tennis camps and after-school tennis programs. Norton Tennis has recently developed an extensive program for Ladera Ranch, including private instruction, after-school programs and seasonal camps.

Norton has worked for twelve years as a professional tennis instructor and he was the Varsity coach at St. Margaret's Episcopal School from 1998-2000. This is his first collegiate coaching position. Norton played his collegiate tennis at GSAC opponent Point Loma Nazarene University, where he was a varsity letterman and was named MVP as a junior. He has also played professionally for twelve years and was ranked as high as #21 in the Men's Open Division of the Southern California Circuit in 1995.

After graduating in 1993 with a BA in applied communications, he went on to earn a Masters of Arts degree in English from Cal State Fullerton. His Doctoral Dissertation in English is currently in process with Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom.
