McKie Advances At ITA All-American Championships
TULSA, Okla - Senior James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland) played his way into the qualifying draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships after registering a pair of victories in pre-qualifying singles action on Sunday (Sept. 30).
McKie joins teammates senior Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) and junior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) in the qualifying bracket that commences on Monday (Oct. 1).
McKie opened his day dispatching Kevin Metka of Ohio State, 6-4, 6-2, before earning a 6-3, 6-4 decision past Harrison Richmond of Virginia.
Sophomore Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) came up just shy in his bid to advance as Virginia's Ryan Shane bested him 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3 in the fourth round.
Salibasic reached the title match of his flight downing Aliaksandr Malko of Sacramento State, 6-4, 6-2.
Singles action in the qualifying draw for Ghorbel, Goodman and McKie kicks off on Monday (Oct. 1), while Ghorbel and McKie begin doubles competition as well.
