Blue Devils Open ACC Play Against N.C. State

DURHAM, N.C. – Wednesday will mark the opening of conference play for the 28th-ranked Duke men’s tennis team, as they begin ACC action at home against No. 42 N.C. State at 3 p.m.
 
The Blue Devils enter the match with a 7-3 record on the season and are winners in their last four contests. They are undefeated at home this season with a 4-0 ledger.
 
Duke and N.C. State have met 76 times in men’s tennis with the Blue Devils owning a 74-2 all-time record in the series. Duke has won the last 35 meetings between the two schools. The last win for the Wolfpack was a 6-3 victory on April 1, 1980.
 
This week the Blue Devils earned their highest ranking of the season, jumping up 23 spots from No. 51 to No. 28 following two wins against ranked teams on the road last week.
 
Seven Duke players have reached double figures in singles victories this season. They have already eclipsed last year’s total of six players with 10 or more victories. Three players have tallied at least 15 wins, including Kiril Dimitrov (17-9), Reid Carleton (16-7) and Jared Pinsky (15-8). Torsten Wietoska has been the top performer in dual match play with an 8-1 record. He has won five straight matches and is 14-5 overall.
 
David Holland and Wietoska have teamed up for a 6-3 record in doubles during dual match play to lead the way. Dylan Arnould and Carleton are 5-3 at the No. 2 spot.
 
Duke will have three matches this week. Following the N.C. State match they will play No. 14 Florida State on Friday at 3 p.m. They will take on No. 45 Miami at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
