Duke Prepares For Final Three Home Matches
Tuesday, 03/24/2009

DURHAM, N.C. – The 30th-ranked Duke men’s tennis team will round out its home schedule this week with three matches in four days.

The Blue Devils will begin with No. 25 Wake Forest at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The Demon Deacons are 12-5 this season with wins in three straight matches. Duke leads the all-time series between the two schools 76-15.

Last year the Demon Deacons claimed a 4-3 win over the Blue Devils in Winston-Salem. Duke won the doubles point but the bottom of the order came through for the Demon Deacons as they took the bottom three contests as well as the No. 2 match for the win.

Duke will take on Boston College at 3 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils are a perfect 4-0 all-time against the Eagles and won last year’s match 7-0. Duke won eight of the nine matches overall in that contest.

The Blue Devils will honor senior Kiril Dimitrov on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they face No. 75 Maryland. Dimitrov will be playing in his final regular season home match. Duke will try to continue its success against the Terps as they lead the all-time series 43-18. Last year the Blue Devils won eight of the nine matches in College Park for a 7-0 win.

Dimitrov heads into the final week of home matches with a 77-51 career record in singles. He is ranked No. 58 in the ITA singles rankings and leads the team with 20 singles wins on the year. He is a perfect 3-0 in ACC play and is 10-3 overall in dual matches.

Also playing extremely well for the Blue Devils is freshman Luke Marchese. He has won seven straight singles contests, including all three of his ACC outings. He is 4-0 in dual match play and 11-3 overall in his first year.

Admission to all of Duke’s regular season home matches is free of charge.
