Blue Devils To Meet UNC On Tuesday

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s tennis team will head down the road to Chapel Hill tomorrow to face North Carolina at 3 p.m. in the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

The two schools will meet for the 108th time on Tuesday with the Tar Heels holding a 76-31 advantage in the all-time series. Last year’s meeting saw North Carolina edge the Blue Devils, 4-3. The Tar Heels won the doubles point and first three singles contests to go up 4-0 and clinch the match before Duke tallied three straight wins to close it out.

Duke, ranked No. 30 in the ITA team rankings, enters Tuesday with an 11-5 record on the season and 4-2 mark in the ACC. The Blue Devils have won three straight matches. Leading the charge has been freshman Luke Marchese who clinched all three matches and has won his last 10 singles contests. He is 14-3 overall and 6-0 in league play. Dylan Arnould has also been playing well, winning seven of his last 10 to improve to 16-11 overall and 4-2 in the ACC.

North Carolina is ranked No. 42 with a 13-5 record on the year and 2-3 mark in the ACC. The Tar Heels won both their matches this past weekend after dropping their first three league contests. They are led by No. 36 Clay Donato and No. 54 Taylor Fogleman in singles. Donato and Fogleman are also ranked No. 34 in doubles.

The winner of Tuesday’s match will be awarded a Carlyle Cup points. North Carolina currently leads this year’s race 11.5-6.5. The Blue Devils have won the last two points taking the series in baseball over the top-ranked Tar Heels and winning in men’s lacrosse at Chapel Hill.
