Duke’s Cunha named ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke junior Henrique Cunha has been name the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the seventh time during the spring season.
Cunha, ranked third in the ITA singles poll, improved to 26-5 overall and 12-1 in dual match singles play while leading sixth-ranked Duke to a pair of victories in the opening weekend of ACC play. Cunha defeated No. 66 Jaime Pulgar of NC State, 6-4, 6-3, to clinch a 4-3 decision against the Wolfpack on Friday. In Sunday’s match at Wake Forest, the Jaú, Brazil, native posted a 6-3, 6-4 win against Danny Kreyman to help the Blue Devils earn a 6-1 victory. Cunha also comprises the 62nd-ranked doubles tandem in the nation along with sophomore Chris Mengel. Cunha and Mengel teamed up for a pair of wins in the No. 1 position against NC State and Wake Forest, moving to 9-4 overall and 2-0 on the spring.
