Eric Butorac
Eric Butorac joined the Harvard men's tennis coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in August 2010, bringing a lifetime of experience in the game at both the amateur and professional levels.
Butorac began playing tennis at age five with his father, Tim, who is manager of Rochester Tennis Connection, a club in Rochester, Minn. He played collegiately at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., a Division III school, from 2001-03, capturing NCAA singles and doubles titles (w/Kevin Whipple) in '03. Butorac earned All-American honors in singles and doubles in three seasons at Gustavus Adolphus College. He played one season of NCAA Division I tennis at Ball State in 2000 before transferring to Gustavus Adolphus.
After finishing school, Butorac lived in Evreux, France, for one year and played in club-level tennis, gaining his first ATP Ranking on Oct. 6, 2003, after winning the French Futures doubles title in Plaisir, France.
As for his game, Butorac considers his serve as the strength of his play and his favorite surfaces to compete on are indoor hard courts and grass. Butorac has been coached by Ryan Dussault since 2003. Has one younger brother, Jeff, who played tennis for two years at St. John's University in Minnesota. His mother, Jan, also manages at the Rochester Tennis Connection club. Butorac fancies himself as a huge Minnesota pro sports fan, following the Twins (baseball), Timberwolves (NBA) and Vikings (NFL).
