TULSA, Okla. – LSU men’s tennis seniors Roger Anderson and Stefan Szacinski picked up wins on the second day of competition at the ITA All-American Championships held at Tulsa’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Sunday.

Competing in pre-qualifying bonus matches, Anderson knocked off Bradley’s Juan Diego-Cuadrao in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, while Szacinski earned a hard-fought victory against UNLV’s Ace Matias, 6-4, 7-5. Redshirt freshman Joe Hill fell in straight sets to North Carolina’s Brett Clark, 6-3, 6-3, in his bonus match.

Freshmen Harrison Kennedy and Tam Trinh came up short in their bids to reach the qualifying draw as both Tigers fell in the pre-qualifying third round.

Kennedy dropped his match to Alex Palaez of Illinois State, 7-5, 6-4, and Trinh lost to No. 23 seed Andreas Bjerrehus of Virginia Tech, 6-2, 6-4.

“Roger and Stefan played well to go 1-1 in the tournament, and it was great experience for Joe in his first matches,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “Tam and Harrison had some bright spots in their matches and showed some things we can build on. I’m excited about their futures.”

The qualifying singles portion of the tournament begins Monday, and sophomore Chris Simpson, ranked 58th nationally, and freshman Boris Arias will see their first action of the fall season.

“I’m looking forward to good matches tomorrow for Chris and Boris,” Brown said. “With this being the first tournament and the level of competition being so high, the draw will dictate a lot on how successful you will be.

“What we can control is how hard we compete, and that is what we need to focus on. Going into the tournament you are not sure who you will play right away, so we are looking forward to competing and getting the fall underway for these guys.”

Arias will face the 90th-ranked player in the nation and No. 28 seed Jonathan Brooklyn of Hawaii at 3 p.m. CT in the first round of the qualifying draw, and Simpson, the No. 6 seed, will face Oregon’s Jeff Mullen at 4 p.m.

Qualifying doubles will begin Tuesday with Trinh and senior Olivier Borsos scheduled to take part.
