Olean came to NJIT after one year as the athletic trainer at Leechburg (Pa.) High School. He had five previous seasons of collegiate experience, serving as the head trainer at Hood College and Rivier College and as a teaching associate at Springfield College. He has also worked as an emergency medical technician and an aquatic rehabilitation supervisor.

A 1991 graduate of Slippery Rock University with a bachelor of science degree in allied health, Olean received a master of education in physical education from Springfield in 1996. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA).
