No. 8 UNC Preps For Spring In Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- The No. 8 North Carolina women's tennis team will participate in its final individual tournament of the season this weekend when the Tar Heels take part in the 11th annual Freeman Memorial Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV. Carolina will be joined by four other top-10 programs in No. 1 Florida, No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 USC and No. 5 Stanford, as well as Oregon and the host Lady Rebels.
Play begins with round of 16 doubles action on Friday morning at 10 PT, with round of 32 singles to follow. UNC boasts the No. 2 seed in the doubles field in freshmen Ashley Dai and Whitney Kay as well as three seeded singles players - No. 2 Gina Suarez-Malaguti, No. 5 Whitney Kay and No. 7 Zoe De Bruycker. Suarez-Malaguti will receive a first-round bye, with second-round play to follow on Friday.
Two more rounds of singles play will come on Saturday in addition to the doubles quarterfinals, while the final two rounds of doubles and the singles final will be held Sunday.
