Sander Koning
Sander Koning was named the Old Dominion University men's tennis assistant coach, head coach Aljosa Piric announced on Thursday.
"We are excited to have Sander join our coaching staff. He brings a wealth of experience as a player and a coach, and should be a big asset in recruiting, having developed many great contacts throughout Europe in the last several years," Piric said. "His vision, passion, and commitment to development of our student-athletes is second to none and I look forward to him being a great mentor and a role model for our guys."
Koning played collegiate tennis at Clemson, where he was a two-time All-ACC performer and a four-time All-Academic student-athlete. His highest ranking as a singles player was No. 64 and he helped the Tigers achieve a No. 5 team ranking.
Koning earned his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in sports management from Clemson. While he was finishing his masters, he worked as a Volunteer coach for the men's tennis team.
Following completion of his master's, he returned to The Netherlands, where he competed in the highest club competition. He was ranked as high as No. 16 in singles and No. 7 in doubles.
For the last year and a half, he worked for the Dutch Tennis Federation.
