Hovhannisyan, Tearney into Doubles Semifinal at USTA/ITA Southwest Regional

Irvine, Calif. – Mousheg Hovhannisyan and Finn Tearney of the Pepperdine men’s tennis team are still going strong at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships, and won today in the quarterfinals of the doubles draw.

Hovhannisyan (North Hollywood, Calif./Continental Academy) and Tearney (Wellington, New Zealand/Wellington College), seeded No. 8 in the draw, upset San Diego’s Clarke Spinosa and Thibaut Visy, 8-6. The Torero duo was seeded third.

Tomorrow, Hovhannisyan and Tearney will battle with the top-seeded Roberto Quiroz and Max de Vroom of USC at 10 a.m. on the courts of the Anteater Tennis Stadium.

In singles, both Tearney and Damian Gryzelko (London, England/Saddlebrook Preparatory School) finished their respective runs. Tearney suffered a narrow 6-4, 6-4 defeat to Eric Johnson in the round of 16, while Gryzelko lost to Daniel Simko in the consolation round.
