Thresher netters down Hesston

PUBLISHED: Friday, March 11, 2005
HESSTON -- The Bethel College men's tennis team took to the road and downed intra-county rival Hesston College 8-1 Thursday in a dual meet in Hesston.

The Threshers swept the doubles matches and won five of six singles matches. Micah Loucks claimed the sole win for the Larks, winning a split-set match with a super-tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, (10-8) over Brian Blignaut of Bethel.

Adam Gaeddert, Dustin Gudde, Mark Saner and Johann Reimer each claimed a singles win and a doubles win for the Threshers.

"It was a windy day," Bethel coach John Cayton said. "It was a good test for us to see how we do when we're supposed to win. It was good to have Brett Goedeke back, at least in a doubles capacity, while he is rehabbing an ankle."

Bethel is 2-2 in dual meets and hosts Central Christian College and Concordia (Neb.) at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the BC tennis courts.

The meet was the first of the season for the Larks and the first for new head coach Tim Swartzendruber. Hesston meets Tabor 2 p.m. March 23 at home in both a men's and women's match.
