Gwynedd-Mercy College

ALLENTOWN, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy brought home some more championship hardware as the Griffins captured three medals at the 2008 CSAC Women’s Tennis Championships.

Senior Ashley Bowie (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) took home two medals, winning the gold at #5 singles and partnering with freshman Jess Scarpello (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Twp.) to win the #3 doubles.  Bowie defeated top-seeded Alexis DiCamillo of Cabrini, 6-4, 6-2 in the singles final. Bowie and Scarpello then defeated DiCamillo and Michelle Lettman, both from Cabrini, for the doubles crown.

Gwynedd’s final medal came from senior Alana Rumpel (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) at #2 singles. In all, Gwynedd won eight medals (3 gold, 5 silver). Rumpel downed Cabrini's Christine Telling, 4-6, 6-3, and 6-3.

The weekend marked a successful fall season for Gwynedd, which last weekend the team won its first ever CSAC Team Championship and will play in the NCAA Division III Tournament in the Spring.
