Wake Forest senior Cory Parr downed Georgia Tech's 12th-ranked Guillermo Gomez in straight sets en route to the Demon Deacons' 4-2 victory over the Yellow Jackets on Friday in Atlanta. Wake Forest is now 13-6 and 3-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Yellow Jackets (6-9, 1-5) opened the match by taking the doubles point. Wake's No. 1 ranked duo of Cory Parr and Steven Forman posted an 8-6 win at the top spot, but Carlos Salmon and Iain Atkinson dropped an 8-5 decision at No. 2 to knot the contest. GT's Austin Roebuck and Eliot Potvin edged Jonathan Wolff and David Hopkins in a tiebreaker to take the point.
No. 26 Parr got the Deacons on the board with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over No. 12 Guillermo Gomez at No. 1, marking Parr's highest upset of the season. Steven Forman followed with a win in straight sets at No. 2 and Jon Wolff put the Deacons within one victory of taking the match win with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision over Kevin King at No. 3.
Iain Atkinson clinched the Wake Forest victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Dusan Miljevic at No. 4.
Wake Forest will continue road play on Sunday, taking on Clemson in South Carolina.
