The 25th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team defeated Clemson 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Clemson's Hoke Sloan Indoor Tennis Center. Wake Forest is now 14-6 and 4-1 in the ACC and Clemson is 9-10 and 1-6.
The Deacons swept all three doubles contests to go ahead 1-0 heading into singles. Senior Cory Parr downed Clemson's Carlos Alvarexas 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1. Clemson's Ike Belk defeated Wake Forest freshman David Hopkins 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 at No. 4 to set the score at 2-1.
Rok Bizjak took down Steven Forman with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 to knot the score at 2-all. Sophomore Jonathan Wolff followed with a 6-3, 5-6, 7-6 edge over Kevin Fleck at No. 3 to push Wake in front 3-2. Iain Atkinson clinched the win with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5 and Jason Morgenstern added the final WFU point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Wes Moran at No. 6.
Wake Forest will play its last road match of the season on Wednesday, April 1, taking on NC State in Raleigh at 2:30 p.m. Wake Forest returns to Leighton Stadium on April 3 to host Florida State at 5 p.m.
