Univ. of Wisconsin, Whitewater Team Page

The Warhawks had a great summer off the courts after a successful year on the courts.  This summer both teams found out they were selected as ITA All Academic Teams and they did quite a bit of work doing community service as well.

In the class room (for the fourth consecutive year) each team was recognized by the ITA as an ITA All Academic Team for achieving a team GPA of 3.2 or better.    The men’s team averaged a 3.33 GPA and the women’s team averaged a 3.48!

In addition we had 7 women and 6 men earn GPA’s over 3.5, so they will qualify as an ITA scholar athlete.  Those achieving a 3.5 this semester are: Michelle Daciolas, Kalla Schaefer, Marta Kinsman, Abby Martin, Kelly Rutkowski, Ingrid Stensvaag, Jenny Woyahn, Kyle Halweg, Mike Harmatys, Alex Lowe, Alex Mory, Danny Glinert, and Erich Palecek-Congrats on this great honor!

I’d also like to point out our 4.0 students for the semester Mike Harmatys and Erich Palecek.  Also Ingrid Stensvaag almost kept up her career 4.0, but missed by getting one little A-.  Nice run Ingy!

Stensvaag and Lowe were named as the programs' first Academic All Americans for their stellar work on and off the court.  We are all very proud of them.

Of our 26 players 16 of them improved their GPA’s.  I’d like to recognize Erik Scanlan and Annie Smith for working hard and having the most improved GPA’s.  Way to go!  17 of our 26 players reached the GPA team goal of 3.2.

As far as community service goes the team was involved with three major activities this summer.  In May the team did a free two week after school tennis camp for Middle School students.  We had 24 kids sign up and they had a blast being introduced to a sport for life.  In June the team helped with the McNair Scholar group giving lessons to the folks involved in the program designated for first generation and multicultural students on campus.  Finally the team helped with the Warhawk Tennis Camp that had 560 campers in July/Aug for intermediate to advanced tennis players.

Now that our summer work is over, we are ready to hit the courts and classrooms again for another terrific year!
