UT freshman Aeriel Ellis falls in opening round of singles draw to Mississippi’s Kristi Boxx.

 

                NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Texas freshman Aeriel Ellis suffered a straight-set defeat at the hands of Mississippi’s Kristi Boxx Thursday in the opening round of singles at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, one of three national championship events on the college tennis calendar.

                Ellis (Hayward, Calif.) fell to Boxx by a 6-4, 6-3 count in the singles round of 32.   Ellis secured her berth in the event by winning the main singles draw at the ITA Texas Regional Championships on Oct. 20.

Ellis will begin play in the consolation bracket on Friday against an opponent to be determined later this afternoon.
