UT junior Dimitar Kutrovsky falls in the quarters to the tournament’s top seed after defeating Michigan’s Jason Jung in the round of 16.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Texas junior Dimitar Kutrovsky tallied a straight-set win in the singles round of 16 but could advance no further after falling to the tournament’s top seed in the quarterfinals Friday at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
Kutrovsky knocked off Michigan’s Jason Jung in Friday’s round of 16, 6-2, 6-4 to set up a meeting with top-seeded J.P. Smith of Tennessee. Smith prevailed in the first set, 6-1 before edging Kutrovsky in the second set, 7-5 to put away the victory.
In other action Friday, Texas junior Ed Corrie defeated Boise State’s Vicente Joli in the singles consolation bracket, 6-4, 6-2. Corrie will take on Kentucky’s Eric Quigley in the consolation quarterfinals on Saturday.
