UT junior Ed Corrie falls in the final after winning three matches in the consolation draw.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Texas junior Ed Corrie suffered a straight-set defeat in the finals of the singles consolation draw Sunday at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
Florida’s Alex Lacroix dealt Corrie (Harpendon, England) a 6-3, 6-1 defeat in the final. Corrie defeated Boise State’s Vicente Joli, Kentucky’s Eric Quigley and Baylor’s Jordan Rux in the preceding three rounds to reach the singles consolation final.
“Ed beat some great players this week, and the improvements he has made this fall show that he can beat some of the best players in the country,” UT assistant coach Ricardo Rubio said. “Ed has prepared himself really well, and he has taken his game to another level.”
UT senior Dimitar Kutrovsky finished off a productive stint at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoors on Friday after defeating Georgia’s Javier Garrapiz in the round of 32 and Michigan’s Jason Jung in the round of 16.
“Dimitar has had the best fall season of his career at Texas,” Rubio said. “He beat two great players here and played a tight match with (Tennessee’s) J.P. Smith, who won the ITA All-American this fall. Dimi and Ed are ready to be leaders for our team in the spring.”
