Final Stats

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team defeated McNeese State 4-3 on Saturday afternoon to earn its first win in Southland Conference play.

The Colonels (4-4, 1-4 Southland) won the doubles point prior to singles play, lifting the club to victory after both teams laid tied with three match victories each.

Capturing singles victories were the heart of the lineup with sophomoreSumana Kalyanasundaram getting a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 over Vicky Martinez. Following her was sophomore Tatiana Denezhkina at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-1 over Petra Gudelj, and then senior Sanja Stanojcic got the 6-2, 7-5 decision over Maria Del Rocio Frausto.

The Cowgirls (5-4, 1-2 Southland) won the other three matches, picking up wins at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6 spots in the lineup.

Nicholls will host Alcorn State on Tuesday at the Colonel Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
