Katee Sanderson Strikes a forehand en-route to a 5-4 team win

 The Saint Joseph's College women's tennis team opened GLVC play with a dramatic 5-4 victory against rival Lewis University on Saturday. 

The duo of Katee Sanderson (Fr., Wheatfield Ind./Michigan City) and Heather Esker (Effingham Ind./St. Anthony) won their 13th consecutive match at number one doubles to help give the Pumas (12-2, 1-0 GLVC) a 2-1 lead going into the singles. 

Sanderson, Jordan Orner (Sr., Avon Ind./Avon) and Anisha Gohil (Sr., Kokomo Ind./ Taylor) then clinched the remaining three points needed for the team victory in the singles competition. Orner was the decisive point, trailing 5-7 and 2-5 in the second set tie-break, the team captain rallied to a 5-7, 7-6(6), 6-2 victory. 

In the men's match, the Pumas (5-9, 0-1 GLVC) fell to the Midwest Region's eighth ranked Flyers 9-0. The most competitive match came at number six singles where Ben Frankowski (So., Hobart Ind./ Hobart) lost to Bret Mega 6-4, 6-4.

The Pumas will host two more GLVC foes this weekend as the University of Indianapolis visits Rensselaer on Friday. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CDT. SJC will then host Southern Indiana on Saturday morning. Competition will begin at 10 a.m. CDT.
