Rain Forces Suspension of Miami-Florida NCAA Tennis Regional
Hurricanes and Gators will return to the court on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Gainesville, Fla… After a day of inclement weather initially pushed back the start of the match six hours, the rain returned to force the suspension of the NCAA Men’s Tennis regional final between 27th-ranked Miami and No. 8 Florida on Saturday evening at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
Intermittent thunderstorms throughout the day caused delays for all three matches the Gators hosted on Saturday, as a pair of NCAA Tournament first round women’s matches had to be completed before the Hurricanes (15-8) and Gators (19-8) could square off for the opportunity to advance to the NCAA’s Round of 16.
The match finally got underway at 9:09 p.m. – well after its 3 p.m. scheduled start – and the Gators went on to claim the doubles point with wins at both No. 1 and 2 to take the 1-0 lead.
As singles matches moved midway into the first set the rain returned, forcing the suspension of play until Sunday morning.
Sunday’s winner advances to the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship in Stanford, Calif., to be held from May 19-22.
