AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn senior Alex Stamchev was named the SEC's Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. It marks the second league honor for Stamchev this season.

Stamchev, a native of Pleven, Bulgaria, became just the second player in Auburn history to surpass 200 career combined singles and doubles victories in the Tigers' two victories over No. 36 Arkansas and No. 25 LSU last weekend. He won his 100th career doubles match - an Auburn record - on Friday as he paired with junior Andreas Mies to take down Hall Fess and Matt Walters of Arkansas, 8-1.

On Sunday, Stamchev earned a straight-set win over LSU's Neal Skupski, 6-4, 6-2, for his 100th career singles victory, moving him past Matt Hewitt for second place all-time in singles wins at Auburn. Playing at the No. 2 position for the Tigers, Stamchev has a 14-2 record in singles in dual match play this spring (4-0 SEC), and is currently in the midst of a seven-match winning streak.

He now stands six wins shy of the all-time Auburn record for combined singles and doubles wins (207), currently held by Marcel van der Merwe, who played at Auburn from 1983-87.

Stamchev and the Tigers get a break from Southeastern Conference play this week as they head to Orlando, Fla., for a non-conference match against Central Florida on Friday, set to begin at 8:30 a.m. CT.
