ATHENS-----Five members of the Georgia women’s tennis team have been named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes for 2012, the ITA announced Tuesday.

Kate Fuller, Lauren Herring, Alina Jerjomina, Kelli Jordan and Maho Kowase earned ITA Scholar-Athlete distinction by posting at least a 3.50 grade point average this past season as varsity letter winners for Georgia. It is the most Bulldogs honored in one year since the entire team made it in 2005.

In related news Monday, the Southeastern Conference released its Spring Academic Honor Roll for upperclassmen, and it included Fuller, Jerjomina, Jordan and Kowase.  Later this summer, the SEC will announce its First-Year Academic Honor Roll, and Herring will be on that list too.

On the court, Herring was a first team All-SEC selection, the SEC Freshman of the Year and ITA Southeast Region Rookie of the Year. She tallied a 30-9 singles record and 26-12 in doubles with Fuller. Kowase made first team All-SEC after going 25-8 in singles and 24-2 in doubles with Lilly Kimbell. They set a school record by going 22-0 at No. 3 in the lineup.  Fuller was a second team All-SEC pick while Jerjomina and Jordan saw a majority of their action in fall tournaments.  Jerjomina went 4-3 at No. 6 in the lineup and 3-2 in doubles in the spring with senior All-American Chelsey Gullickson.

The 2012 Bulldogs, under the direction of Jeff Wallace, registered a 24-5 record and No. 6 final national ranking after reaching the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships.
