Flushing, N.Y. - One day after winning his opening-round singles match at the 2012 U.S. Open, Bruin sophomore Dennis Novikov was victorious yet again on Wednesday, as he and partner Michael Redlicki won their first-round doubles match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Novikov and Redlicki, who is a freshman at Duke, won a thriller on Wednesday, saving four match points to defeat ATP Tour veterans Bobby Reynolds and Michael Russell 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(7). The duo has a day off before taking on either Colombia's Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah or Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Marcelo Melo of Brazil.
Novikov will also have a day off from singles, as his match against Julien Benneteau of France will be sometime on Friday. Novikov defeated Poland's Jerzy Janowicz in Tuesday's first round.
