ATHENS, Ga. - Mississippi State men's tennis freshmen Jordan Angus and Pedro Dumont continued their spectacular run through the Southern Intercollegiate Championships Sunday, reaching the semifinals of the Division I doubles bracket with a pair of wins.

The rookie duo started early Sunday with a match against Tennessee Tech's Syrym Abdukhalikov and Alejandro Augusto, who had upset the No. 2 seeded Florida team of Bob van Overbeek and Billy Federhofer Friday. Angus and Dumont wasted no time against the TTU pair, jumping out early and defeating the duo 8-2.

Angus and Dumont then faced Southeastern Conference foes Hernus Pieters and KU Singh of host Georgia with a trip to the semifinals on the line. The match was a back and forth affair, with Angus and Dumont pulling out an impressive 9-7 victory. Angus and Dumont will continue play Monday in the semifinals of Division I doubles against Florida's Michael Alford and Florent Diep.

"I am very proud of them," coach Per Nilsson said of Angus and Dumont. "They did a good job recovering from singles and focused on getting better in doubles."

Bulldogs James Chaudry and Malte Stropp, MSU's other remaining doubles team in the Division I main draw round of 16, began Sunday cruising to a win against Georgia's Marco Nunez and Austin Smith, 8-1. The quarterfinal matchup proved to be much tougher, as the fourth-seeded MSU duo fell to Florida's Alford and Diep 9-8(3) in a very tight affair.

In singles consolation play Sunday, MSU freshman Romain Bogaert put on an impressive performance, garnering two wins. Bogaert started off his day with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Kennesaw State's Alex Tolliver. The Huppaye, Belgium, native then defeated Vanderbilt's Michael Retta, 6-2, 6-0, in his second match to end his run in the tourney, due to no back draw in consolation play.

Senior Ethan Wilkinson did not find similar success in consolation play, as he dropped a hard-fought match to Georgia College's Johan Wadstein, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(7).
