The USC tennis team kicks off 2012-13 competition this week with action starting up in Tulsa, Okla., at the ITA All-American Championships. Today, two Trojans already started on their All-American paths in the singles qualifying draw, which runs Oct. 1-3. The main draw gets underway Oct. 4 and will stretch to title matches on Oct. 7.

Today's qualifying rounds saw USC sophomores Eric Johnson and Roberto Quiroz make moves with straight-set wins in the first round. Johnson topped Albert Ochagavia of Old Dominion 6-2, 6-1 to move into tomorrow's second round against No. 13 seeded Sebastian Stiefelmeyer of Louisville. Quiroz comes into the qualifying action as the No. 24 seed. He beat Purdue's Diego Acosta 6-2, 7-6 (2) today to square off against Washington's Emmett Egger tomorrow.

If those two Trojans can gather enough wins in qualifying, they will launch into the main draw to join their teammates. Already lined up for the main draw are USC's #9 Ray Sarmiento, #23 Emilio Gomez and #25 Yannick Hanfmann. In doubles, #12 Sarmiento/Quiroz are also expected to make some noise in that main draw.
