TULSA, Okla. – On the second day of fall competition, singles runs were ended in qualifying for Huskies Emmett Egger and Marton Bots at the ITA All-American Championships, however Egger came back to team with senior Kyle McMorrow and earn a victory in their opening doubles match.
Qualifying play continues for one more day tomorrow at the University of Tulsa’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center. McMorrow and Egger will need another victory on Wednesday to advance into the main draw, while McMorrow will start his singles run in the main draw on Thursday. Today the two opened with a 9-7 victory over Daniel Hoffman and John Huang of Yale. They will play Fickey/Jones of Tennessee tomorrow.
Egger and Bots had won their opening round qualifying matches yesterday at college tennis’ first major of the year, but couldn’t add to that this afternoon. Bots, ranked 71st, was just a few points away from victory, winning the first set and going to a second set tiebreaker against Pedro Dumont of Mississippi State, but Dumont won the breaker and then controlled the final set for a 1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory. Egger went up against 85th-ranked Roberto Quiroz of USC and fell short, 6-1, 6-3.
