PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.  – The final day of qualifying marked a long, but good couple of days for University of Tennessee women’s tennis player Kata Szekely at the Riviera ITA Women's All-American Championships.

On day one, after taking part in a marathon doubles victory to start her time at the tournament alongside partner Brynn Boren, No. 28 ranked Szekely fell in the first game of the singles qualifier, to No. 81 ranked Elizabeth Epstein of Yale, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4.

The senior bounced back on day two however and after earning a 8-2 doubles victory with Boren to move the duo into contention for a main draw spot, Szekely defeated Nives Pavlovic UNLV 7-6 (6), 6-1 in the first round of singles consolation play.

Szekely continued her singles play with a victory over No. 35 Hanna Mar of Duke 6-4, 7-6 (5) moving her further along the consolation qualifying round.

Szekely played in her fourth match of the day when she and Boren easily took down the duo of Jasmin Kling and Patricia Fargas of DePaul 8-3 to earn a spot in the doubles main draw.

“Kata played a lot of tennis in the last two days, and she has held up well,” said co-head coach Mike Patrick. “She had a long match yesterday and a bunch of long matches today, but she came away with the wins.”

“Kata and Brynn took on some of the toughest competition in the country over the last two days,” said Patrick. “This tournament is one of the best events of the year with the best players out here. You get to compete and win matches and see where you are at nationally this time of year.”

The duo will continue action Thursday as the main draw competition begins.

Szekely and Boren will continue their doubles play into the main draw doubles Thursday.

In singles action, Boren will play in her first singles match of the tournament when she takes on No. 16 Stacey Tan of Stanford at 10:45 a.m. PT/1:45 p.m. ET Szekely will continue her singles play in the consolation round when she faces Li Xi of Virginia tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET.
